Odds & Ends

It seems as if I'm only getting around to this blog about once a week lately, so here is a recap of the past week.

Stroll Outside
With last Sunday's beautiful sunshine, I thought it would be a nice break to take a stroll through the neighborhood. The walk was rather short, though, when I actually stepped outside and realized it was colder than I had expected...Brrr!

Sippy Cup
Last Sunday, Olivia had her first experience trying a sippy cup. At her 6-month appointment, it was recommended that she start drinking water (2 oz.) through a sippy cup, so she learns to drink water well and hopefully like it. She didn't really hold the cup, but she did eventually get it up to her mouth. I don't think she took any sips though. We'll have to keep practicing.

Daddy showing Olivia how it's done. Actually, he didn't think any water was coming out, so I guess he wanted to test it.

Our Little Talker
This past Monday and Tuesday Olivia talked up a storm, babbling a few new sounds. Here is a cute video from last Monday where she's talking to her Daddy.

New Faces
Recently, Olivia has started licking her upper lip. I think I remember her doing this before, but this past week, it was a regular occurrence!

Olivia in Action
Here's a good video of Olivia. You can hear her new babbles, see her skilled movements (rolling over obstacles and hunching up her knees to start to crawl), and her love of grabbing EVERYTHING!

Griffins Game
Wednesday we went to the Griffins game with Craig. Since the Griffins won, Peter traded in his tickets and got another set of free tickets to next Sunday's game! While we were out, Olivia went to Grandma and Grandpa Smith's house. She played, pet the dogs, talked (Grandma claims she said "DaDa"), and ate her dinner there. Grandma said she tried putting Olivia to sleep, but each time she laid her down, Olivia would start to cry. She started to let Olivia cry a little and calm herself in the Pack N Play, but Grandpa heard the cries and swept Olivia up in his arms! Grandpa ended up holding Olivia until she was sound asleep and then placed her down in the Pack N Play without a peep! She had been asleep for a little over an hour by the time we picked her up. She then slept on the ride home and fell asleep until 6 am in her crib!!!

Peas, Please
Friday Olivia tried her first green veggie...peas! She had just finished taking her last dose of amoxicillin; I finally mastered how to administer the medicine without too much waste. Then she had a few spoonfuls of peas. Something must have not settled properly, though, because she ended up throwing it up! She still drank her bottle. After the bottle, Daddy tried to give her some more spoonfuls of peas. The results of this second attempt with peas are pictured below.

Refusal of the peas!! Notice the look on her face and her arched back. It seemed that peas were not her favorite. She may have just been full, though. She tried them again today, and the feeding went much smoother.

  1. I think Olivia wants carrots, and NOT the pureed kind. Enough of the green vegetables - she's had the best. And really, who needs a sippy cup when she can use a straw?
